What is a Keyword?
Now that we know what SEO is and how it works, we want to know how to SEO a website properly. The main elements that are needed to gain organic traffic from search engines are: title tag, meta description and keyword tag, header tag (H1, H2, and H3), image file names, diverse keywords, relevancy, and reputable links.
- The first step is to find keywords that will help your website to get traffic. To start finding keywords is very simple, start searching a common word or phrase that is related to your business.
- The second thing you should see is keyword competition. It gives you an overall idea on how many web pages are using that keyword or phrase. However, unlike for search volume when the higher the search number, the better it is; in competition, the higher the number, the bad it is. This means that the competition of that keyword or phrase is fierce and the odds are against you.
For example, if you are selling phone cases for iPhone online, the keyword or phrase that would be relevant to your business would be ‘iPhone cases’. You can use Google keyword research to do your search on keywords. Once you type in your keyword or phrase, you’ll see thousands of keywords containing iPhone cases. Firstly, you’ll see the search volume of that keyword or phrase that you are searching. Search volume is the number of times each keyword is searched in the internet. It is strongly recommended to look for keywords that have high search volume. When the search number is higher, it means that people are searching that keyword frequently.
